Attention Urban Farmers & Food Processors!


The Carrot Project is excited to announce Deepening Roots, Growing Success, a business training program for start-up urban farmers and food processors! This training is for you if you are interested in starting or are already operating an urban farm or locally-sourced food processing business. While we will focus on the local Boston scene in some parts of the training, ALL are welcome to attend, and the training is not limited to nor solely applicable to Bostonians.

- 1 Saturday Intensive Crash Introduction on January 28 from 8:30am-5:00pm


- 8 Monday Evening Sessions from January 30-March 20 from 6:00pm-9:00pm

Sign up for the one-day Saturday Intensive only to hear great presentations and guest speakers, or sign up for both events!

The Saturday Intensive will help orient you to the burgeoning local urban agriculture and food processing scenes! During panel discussions and presentations, you will hear from local experts such as The Urban Farming Institute and Commonwealth Kitchen, as well as local business leaders, and become acquainted with resources to help you move forward in your business ideas and plans. Additionally, there will be a networking opportunity during lunch where representatives from The Carrot Project, The Urban Farming Institute, CommonWealth Kitchen, Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources, New Entry Sustainable Farming Project, Accion Food and Beverage Small Business Loan Program, the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development for Small Businesses, LEAF, Conservation Law Foundation, The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Social Justice, Julia Shanks Food Consulting, Green Beat, Boston Food Forest Coalition, Msaada Partners, The Trustees, and others will be present to answer your questions!

The 8 Monday evening sessions will offer expert training from local business leaders and organizations that will help you develop the financial savvy you need to start and grow your business!

Legal considerations to starting your own business Entity formation Preparing for financing: What lenders want to know Understanding and using financial statements The role of equity Creating & understanding financial projections Setting up useful financial management systems Practical tools for financial management

Cost of Training:
$50 for all 9 sessions, including Saturday Intensive OR
$10 for 1 session Saturday Intensive ONLY
$40 for 8 session Classroom Training Instruction
